If there's one thing I've learned about local businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador it's that collaboration and partnership, not matter how big or small, is almost always mutually beneficial. That's why, as part of Brain Food Studios' youth filmmaking classes, we aim to partner with local business to create fun promotional and brand-building content for their social media channels.
Last year, our Jr. Filmmakers partnered with our very first "clients" Jumping Bean and Postmasters Bakery. We met with the owners of these local brands to understand what sort of content they were looking for, and what messaging they wanted to include. Then the kids went into the studio to script, storyboard, film, and edit video content for the brands to use at their leisure.
For Jumping Bean, owner Jeff LeDrew presented the a few ideas he'd been toying with but the group took to the notion of #GetBeaned - a three-part (for now) campaign in which unsuspecting coffee drinkers have other brands unceremoniously slapped out of their hands and replaced with a Jumping Bean beverage.
Upon seeing the first of the #GetBeaned videos, co-owners of the Postmasters Bakery, Mark Murphy and Eldon Murray, approached the group to created a short film to announce the return of the Gingerbread Folk horde to the 2023 Downtown St. John's Santa Claus Parade. This video was also featured as part of the Nickel Film Festival's Youth Film Challenge.
But, the groups biggest success was a video announcing the Postmasters Bakery new location opening. With over 16,000 views and over 7,000 rewatches this promotional video had gone viral by local small business standards.
Undoubtedly, the success of the bakery is due to their delicious foods, exceptional service, and welcoming atmosphere. However, as customers piled in on opening day and the following weeks, the Gingerbread Folk video was a regular topic of conversation in the bakery.
To clarify, Brain Food Studios is NOT a marketing agency. However, when local businesses come together with Brain Food Studios, the possibilities are endless. It's a win-win situation that not only boosts your business but also fosters a sense of community support. While our content creation is free, past partners have found creative ways to show their appreciation. Some have sponsored screening events, providing goods and in-kind services.
The benefits for our clients is gaining unique and locally created content while offering local youth an opportunity to develop their filmmaking skills. The benefits for our Jr. Filmmakers is they get the opportunity for new audiences to see their work and to have authentic media industry experiences working for recognizable local brands.
So, what are you waiting for? Let Brain Food Studios be the secret ingredient that elevates your brand to new heights. Reach out, and let's cook up something amazing together. To get in touch, email us at brainfoodstudiosca@gmail.com.
